Interview with Maid of Ace

November 11, 2012 by Admin

Could you introduce the band and tell us what you all do?

“We're Maid of Ace, an all girl old school punk band from Hastings, consisting of Alison on lead vocals and guitar, Anna on vocals and guitar, Amy on bass and backing vocals and Abby on drums.”

How would you describe the sound of the band?

“Old school punk beats with raw guitar sounds, dirty bass and aggressive but melodic vocals.”

What really makes you unique is the fact that you're all sisters. What made you all want to form a band together?
“Well, living in a small bungalow together...you either put up wiv the racket or join the racket.”

Do you think it's a major help to the band being so closely related?
“Yeh coz we're always gonna have that bond, friends might not argue as much as sisters but we always laugh about it at the end of the day, and we find writing easier coz we're all from the same place n therefore on the same level and can be brutally honest with each other.”

How and why did you decide on the name?
“It’s based on our maiden name, all our initials are A.C.E.”

Any plans for an album in the pipeline?
“Yes, we are currently in the making of our debut album, it should be finished early 2013.”

What about gigs?
“For upcoming gigs or bookings visit our band page at www.facebook.com/maidofaceband or www.facebook.com/headcheckmusic”

What would you say has been your career highlight so far?
“Poly Styrene mentioning us in a radio interview as one of her new favourite bands....to hear that from one of your idols is amazing to say the least.”

What does the rest of 2012 hold for Maid of Ace?
“A few last shows, finishing off the album and preparing to take 2013 by the reins n ride it lika bitch.”

And what plans do you have for 2013?
“Getting our album out there and playing as many shows up and down the country as we can!”

Do you have a website where people can be kept up to date with all your goings on?
We love your 2 promo videos for Enemy Within and Dickhead, can you tell us all about the videos and where people can see them?
“Both videos where filmed and directed by Mark Richards, who was a dj at a club we all worked at so he knows us very well and is also a fan of the band, so gets what we're about. Enemy Within' was filmed upstairs of Flairz retro bar, our regular venue and where Abby works. 'Dickhead' was filmed at a private skatepark in hastings called 70's warehouse. You can find our videos on youtube.”

Is making videos something you really enjoy?
“Yeh its always a really good laugh and fun to see the final edit.”
Thanks for the chat, is there anything you would like to add?
“Thankyou! PEACE.”
